Schooley Caldwell was the architect for the new 72,000 square foot Hocking Hills State Park Lodge and Conference Center, replacing the original structure that was destroyed in a fire. The new lodge includes dining facilities, an 80-room hotel, a café, conference and event spaces, indoor and outdoor lounges and activity spaces, and separate indoor and outdoor pools. Visitors flock to the park to see its beautiful and tranquil scenery and unique gorge system of impressive geological formations, and the new lodge is designed to reflect those surroundings.
Featuring a blend of rustic and contemporary design, the building uses natural, sustainable, and durable materials throughout. The lobby has large, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplaces with hearth seating, and the ceilings feature exposed wood scissor trusses with tongue-and-groove wood decking. These and other design qualities are intended to create a deep connection to the natural environment while helping visitors form memorable park experiences.
