Addition

Schooley Caldwell designed a complete renovation and a 10,000 SF addition to the 1921 Clinton Elementary School. The project’s overarching goal was to keep the character and charm of the historic school building while still providing the students and staff with all the technology, systems, and accessibility of a brand-new school building.

The project achieved LEED Gold certification, exceeding the district’s goal of Silver. Some of the mechanisms SC utilized to reach this goal include all new energy-efficient mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, and lighting with occupancy sensors, as well as daylight sensors.  Each classroom has a temperature control. Green site features include rain gardens, detention swales, and permeable paving.

The school also features new gathering spaces, such as an atrium at the intersection of the existing building and the addition. All three floors have new restrooms, and there is now a new Media Center (library) with an attached computer lab. A defined “main” entrance leads directly to the school offices from an accessible entrance.
