Schooley Caldwell is designing a transformative and modern home for Ohio State’s College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE), located in Campbell Hall, a historic, three-story building on campus.
Designing to foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration for students, faculty, staff, and partners is the primary driver for the project. Another project goal is raising the college’s campus visibility and connectivity. EHE is currently spread across multiple facilities on campus, so bringing together faculty, staff, and students into a single space is critical.
The renovation features six new active learning classrooms, ranging from 30 to 70 seats, that are designed to support concurrent in-person and virtual participation. In addition, the plan incorporates 6,200 SF of new space to further support EHE’s educational program. A new common area capable of hosting events for at least 250 people can also serve as a collaborative study space for students. Another key project element is relocating the historic costume gallery, collections storage, conservation lab, and associated office space to a more suitable location within the building.
