The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA) is reimagining the historic Central Presbyterian Church into a vibrant new music venue. Designed to host intimate performances and highlight emerging musical talent, the Music Hall will offer a unique cultural experience in the heart of Columbus. Once complete, the venue will welcome approximately 300 guests, making it the smallest professional performance space in the city and an important complement to CAPA’s larger theaters.
Schooley Caldwell is leading the adaptive reuse of the church, carefully balancing preservation with modern functionality. The sanctuary is being transformed into the main performance space, with the stage positioned where the pulpit once stood. The balcony is being renovated to ensure accessibility and comfort for all patrons.
An addition to the church will serve as the primary entry point, providing a seamless connection to the performance hall. This new wing will also house a range of amenities essential for both artists and audiences, including bar areas on the first and second floors, backstage support spaces, storage, restrooms, and dressing rooms. To further enhance the patron experience, a rooftop deck is planned, offering views of downtown Columbus. Importantly, the rooftop bar and deck will remain open independently of music hall events, extending the venue’s use and vibrancy beyond performance nights.
