Shively Hall
Ohio University
Renovation of 160-bed residence and dining hall.
Overview
Schooley Caldwell designed a full renovation to Shively Hall, a 55,000SF 160-bed residence and dining hall. This project involved renovations to existing rooms, ADA accessibility upgrades, and the creation of living/learning centers within the residence hall.
Extensive renovations to the dining hall resulted in the creation of a marketplace atmosphere with several different food stations, which enable OU to meet students’ desires for varied, fresher, and healthier food options. A grab-n-go station was also created to serve the needs of busy students. A new skylight brings natural light to the space, while new furnishings and fixtures make it welcoming and comfortable.
Shively’s renovations have resulted in an attractive and popular dining option for the East Green. Shively Hall was completed in 2009 after having been successfully bid and constructed, with the bids coming in under budget. Though the Owner elected not to pursue LEED certification, Shively’s renovations were designed based on sustainable principles.
